weekly creature drawing
the kickstarter madness is officially over! thanks again to everyone who pledged and helped spread the word, i couldn't have done it without you:)
i'll be posting updates on the progress of the sculpts over the next few months, and once all of the kickstarter orders have gone out, i'll have the white resin and the painted woodland ovok available for purchase in my shop.
i'm also going to get back in to posting a new creature illustration every week, to start us off, here's the big beast himself, ovok!
white resin casts
I just got the final resin samples, operation ovok is a go! the full run will be getting made in the next couple of weeks, hooray!
ovok sculpture process
here's some process photos of my ovok sculpture. working from a sketch, i blocked out the body structure in extra firm polymer clay. after creating the body shape, i worked out the detail of the face and fur cutting out each little triangle. once finished he was baked in the oven and then sanded to tighten up the details.
maker faire pictures
here's a few pictures of my table at maker faire from a few weeks ago, such a great show! i wish i had more time to explore all of the amazing things that were there. luckily i was able to meet lots of creative and interesting people that stopped by my booth to check out my wares:)
hooray we made our kickstarter goal!
o my, this kickstarter business is very exciting! thank you so much to everyone who has helped spread the word, and who backed the project! after only 6 days we reached our goal of $4000. now with 19 days left, i've set a new challenge of raising $8000 to cast a new color, if we go beyond i will start working on a new sculpture (because ovok needs a friend) and any extra money raised will allow me the time to create and
add to the oddFAUNA world by working on some new illustrations and in
fleshing out some stories (I've got a few ideas up my sleeve:)
And now for your viewing pleasure, I've trained a real live oddFAUNA creature (my goofy dog Edwin) to perform in your honor. Enjoy!

new sculpt! woodland ovok
so i know that i haven't posted a creature sketch this week, but i have a good reason i swear! i've been putting together a kickstarter project (set to launch this friday) for my new ovok sculpture, which has taken over my life for the past week. here's a pic of the freshly painted woodland ovok color test, please let me know what you think! he'll also be available in the natural white resin, which looks fantastic unpainted.
i also have a booth at maker faire this weekend, if you come by my table and i am taking a nap underneath it, you'll know why:)
creature sketch, angry little goat
a belated monday creature sketch! not sure why he is so angry, maybe he has a headache from carrying all those horns, or maybe he just needs a hug.
Urban Air Market, May 6th in Hayes Valley!
Urban Air Market is this Sunday, come out to this amazing outdoor art and apparel festival on Octavia St in San Francisco! I'll be at booth 33Bb with all my wares, come check it out!
fresh new sculpts!
newly painted sculpts! these little guys are traveling to new york with me for mocca fest this weekend.
ovok sculpture army
a super awesome customer just sent me a pic of all of the oddfauna sculpts that they've purchased over the past year. I think they are slowly creating an ovok army.
new ovok sculpture!
so i've been working on a new ovok creature sculpture, i wanted to make one that was even bigger, and that had all of the detail of the face and fur sculpted instead of painted on like the other guys. my hope is that he would look good unpainted so that i can sell him for a little less, and then do a few different colorway paint jobs that would be sold as limited editions. i'm just trying to decide now if i should cast him myself in hydrocal gypsum (he'll be super heavy) or get someone with a well ventilated studio to help me cast him in resin. hmm decisions decisions....
MoCCA FEST NY! April 28-29
hiya folks!i'll be back in new york at the end of the month for mocca fest! i'll be packing my suitcase full of new prints, including some larger limited edition ones, and as many new little beasties as i can fit in my luggage, plus a very limited amount of shadowbox dens. I'll also have plenty of my mini accordion fold oddfauna books!
monday creature drawing, the leafy sea dragon
my posts have been a little sporadic lately, so i've decided to start posting a new creature illustration every monday. to kick it off, here are a few watercolor drawings of some leafy sea dragons. these are some truly odd and beautiful creatures that actually exist in nature (not just the world of oddfauna:) here's a video if you want to check out how amazing they really are.
